No one wants to deal with fleas!

Fleas are a common concern, especially during warmer months. These tiny pests can quickly become a big problem — for your dog, for your home, and for our salon. Here’s what you need to know to help keep your pet comfortable and all our furry clients safe.

How to prevent fleas on your dog

  • Keep your dog on a veterinarian-recommended flea preventative year-round, not just in summer.
  • Avoid areas with tall grass, sand, and places where wildlife or stray animals frequent.
  • Check your dog’s coat regularly for signs of fleas or flea dirt (tiny black specks).
  • Wash bedding, vacuum carpets, and keep your yard trimmed.

Important: Flea preventatives must be applied at least 48 hours before your grooming appointment to be fully effective.

Signs your dog may have fleas

  • Excessive scratching, licking or biting - especially around the base of the tail, groin, armpits, or belly
  • Hair loss or thinning fur - often due to scratching or allergic reactions to flea saliva
  • Red, irritated, or scabbed skin - flea bites can cause inflammation and sores
  • Tiny black specks (flea dirt) - looks like pepper and may appear on your dog's skin or bedding. When placed on a wet paper towel, flea dirt turns reddish (it's digested blood)
  • Live fleas - you might see small, fast moving brown insects in the fur, especially around the neck or tail
  • Flea dirt on bedding or furniture - same black specks
  • You or other pets are itchy too - fleas can bite humans and spread to other animals
  • Flea eggs or larvae - tiny white specks in the environment, though harder to spot
  • Restlessness or discomfort - your dog may have trouble settling or seem unusually anxious
  • Head shaking or ear scratching - fleas sometimes bite in and around ears

What to do at home if your dog has fleas

  • Contact your veterinarian right away for the best treatment options.
  • Treat all pets in your home, wash their bedding, vacuum carpets and furniture, and dispose of the vacuum bag immediately.
  • Use a quality flea spray and apply it liberally around your home, yard, and even your vehicle — fleas can hide in more places than you think.
  • Delay your next grooming appointment until at least 48 hours after treatment to ensure your pet is no longer carrying live fleas.

Our Flea & Tick Policy

For the health and safety of your pet, our team, and all salon guests, we strongly recommend that all pets be on an effective flea and tick preventative. Please ensure the treatment is applied at least 48 hours prior to your appointment, and avoid areas where your pet could pick up fleas before their visit.

If we discover live fleas during your dog’s appointment, we must reevaluate services immediately to protect all pets in our care. In this situation, will will call you with two options:

  1. Immediate Pickup – You can pick your dog up right away and pay the flea sanitizing fee plus any services already completed.
(Salon Flea sanitizing fee: $40–$60 plus tax)
  2. Full Flea Bath – A flea bath can be done on the condition that we have available time - other booked services may need to be rescheduled

(flea bath and salon flea sanitizing fee: $75-100+ plus tax)

Repeat Occurrence:
If you choose immediate pickup a second time when live fleas are found, the flea sanitizing fee will apply again, and you will also be responsible for paying the missed appointment fee (full cost of the originally booked services). If you choose not to pay the missed appointment fee, we will unfortunately be unable to book future appointments and will ask that you find another groomer going forward.

If We Can’t Reach You:
If we are unable to reach you after finding fleas, we will begin a flea bath at your expense to ensure the safety of the other dogs in our care while we await your response.

Important:
Please keep your phone on and set to loud during your pet’s appointment. In case of emergencies or necessary service changes, we must be able to contact you immediately. We cannot delay the care of other pets while trying to reach you.
